The Reasoning Behind My Blog Name

By a show of hands...wait...no. That won't do. Okay...by a show of COMMENTS, is there anyone here reading who either goes or went to Aquinas? For those of you who are/were not Aquinas students, "Always striving for that which I was made" wouldn't really make that much sense, would it? You probably think it's just a nice, poetic thing to say about myself. Actually, it's a part of the Aquinas alma mater.

From the first time I set foot in Aquinas, I knew I wanted to be there. There was something charming about it that was lacking in the other schools I visited (*cough*BishopKearney*cough*). In the Student Union (built in 2006, if I have my dates correct), a copy of the alma mater hangs proudly and majestically over the room, reminding us of the immensity of our Aquinas family and how proud/honored we should feel to be part of such a great thing. As a serial over-achiever, I hastily scribbled down the words on a piece of paper (along with work I'd done in my shadow's AP BIOLOGY class...) and memorized it, so that come September of freshman year, I would be ready to sing and sway with the rest of the school.

Do I still feel so proud of the Maroon & White? Well, sure I do. I can't deny that. However, it isn't always perfect! There are stressful moments every day. But the beautiful part of it all is that there is always something to make me smile or laugh, and that folks, is worth every penny (or lackthereof. What can I say? God blessed me with a wonderful education at an affordable price :D).

Anyway, I definitely think an Aquinas education will always be worth the sacrifices of money, having to deal with a strict dress code, etc. I love AQ.

For those of you who were wondering, here are the lyrics to the Aquinas Alma Mater:

Thou place of rev'rie
Praise we and uphold thee
In retrospection
We see thy intention
Always to strive for
That which we were made for

Aquinas evermore!
Dear Alma Mater
May you in all hours
Be thee outstanding
Be the one commanding
And of those striving

Be the one surviving
TRIUMPHANT OVER ALL!

New Uniforms for the Naz Girls

I have always been a major proponent of a good school uniform. Sometimes, we think of it as something we're only wearing 35 hours at week at school. But what if you don't have time to change and you're going somewhere? That means other people in public will see you. This makes it important to have a very awesome uniform. I don't know about you, but I'm not paying thousands of dollars per year to wear a terrible outfit that doesn't proudly show my AQ student status!

AQ doesn't really have a uniform, though. However, we do have polos. They're wonderful. I believe there are new ones they designed this past year, but I don't like the shade of maroon because it's darker than the kind I like to wear. I have all of my polos from freshman year. I haven't felt the need to buy nI can wear these polos in warm weather months (September, October, May, and June). For the rest of the year in between, I usually wear something I find fashionable, which fits within the constraints of the dress code policy, of course. I like the freedom of not having to tuck in my dress blouse. When I was a freshman/sophomore, girls HAD to tuck them in. It's less of a hassle to have to worry about tucking. The polos however, always remained tucked.

The point here is: I LOVE MY AQ CLOTHES!

But...what about the Naz ladies? I'm positive they're not too keen on giving up their comfortable Naz sweaters and sneakers (I'm jealous! AQ students have to wear dress shoes every day). Nevertheless, I think Naz girls really wouldn't be able to mesh with the rest of the AQ body if they had separate uniforms. I think there should be polos with AQ and Naz both written on them. That way, they can show their Nazareth pride if they so choose. If this happened, I honestly think I would just keep my old clothes and not worry too much about the new ones. (I'm graduating soon anyway. What's the point of having new polos?)

Anyway, I'd like to know what YOU think about all this. Miss Naz and I believe it's incredibly important to get feedback from our readers. Thanks! :D

Let Me Introduce Myself...

Ladies and gentlemen, I am AQ Girl.
Aquinas Girl.
Aquinas Institute Student of the Female Gender.

Whichever way you'd like to spin it, that's me.

Why did I start this blog, you ask? Well, a close friend of mine also has a blog here. She is Miss Naz. She has supported me in the decision to start blogging about AQ life.

This blog is a supplement to SOS (savenazareth.blogspot.com). You see, Miss Naz has some very dedicated readers out there. But whilst she loves blogging solely about the wonderful Blue & Gold, she started to think: "What if there were someone who specialized in the Maroon & White?" That's where I came into play. As Miss Naz trusts me to write the honest truth, I will be doing so. We will be writing about similar topics, from entirely different perspectives. Please feel free to add any comments to either of our blog posts, if you would like to tell us anything.

I won't spend more time on this introduction. It is now time to get down to business, and answer some concerns regarding the merger/partnership of the Nazareth Academy and Aquinas Institute!
